Audio-Responsive Generative Data Visualization on Fabric

I created an audio-responsive flow field in p5.js. Different parts of the music, mainly the bass and treble values of the song I chose, corresponded with different lines that were drawn on the canvas. The intensity of the different sounds create faster lines in the flow field.

Sewing is one of my biggest hobbies, so I went through a few iterations of the flow field. I then coded a variant of a wallpaper group and manipulated my image to repeat on fabric, then printed it on two fabrics: silk, and a cotton-silk blend.

I’ve worn the blouse many times. I also sewed everything I’m wearing in these pictures!

The details of the sleeves, which include the patterned part, reflect blue and gold, which indicate the levels of bass and treble used in the song.
